With the emergence of cellular trail cameras in the market still being fairly new, it’s still very expensive for a lot to get into. Spypoint is making great strides to bringing this higher-end technology to the “Average Hunter” with their latest introduction of the Link-Micro, it offers a wallet-friendly way for hunters to be able to sit at work and get pics all day sent directly to their phone on the Spypoint Link App. This Spypoint Link-Micro Review will show you the ins and outs the Link-Micro Trail Camera and let you decide if you want one or twelve.
A look at the Spypoint App
The app is the key to all of the Spypoint line of Link cameras. From here you can do pretty much everything you need on your camera from seeing all your picks, sharing them directly to all your social accounts, changing all the settings and even chatting with support. Below is a break down of the pages of the app you will use with your Spypoint Link camera.
 Here is where the fun happens. The pics all show up from day to day. These pics aren’t the full resolution ones that the camera actually takes. You have to get those from the memory card in the camera. You can check out the comparison below. But these pics have been compressed in size to make it easier to transmit to your phone and use less battery and data. |  The information page gives you all the info on the camera itself from the signal strength, how much battery is left and some current info like temp and how many pics have been taken on the current month’s subscription. |
 All of the camera settings happen on the app as well. On other Link cameras, you can choose to have it in video mode, but not on the Link-Micro. If you do have a camera with the video ability, you won’t get a video sent to the app. But, you will get a pic taken at the start of the video. This is another feature to keep data use low and keep subscription rate low also. You will have to pull the files off the memory card to get the videos. |  All of the settings of the camera can be set from the app from wherever you are. If your camera is taking too many pics of small stuff, just change the sensitivity to something lower. If you don’t want pics taken during a certain time, you can create a schedule. The list of setting configurations is big and it’s all done from your app wherever you’re at. |
How clear are the pictures?
As I mentioned above, the pics you see on your app sometimes appear to be a little fuzzy at times. Part of that is the lighting, time of day and so on. But a lot of it is because the images are shrunk down in size. You can see the comparison below in quality and size from the app pics and the pics pulled from the memory card. Having the ability to download the full resolution image would be a nice feature, but I totally understand not doing it if it keeps the subscription costs down.

What about that size?
The Spypoint Micro is called Micro for a reason. It’s small. The dimensions of this camera are 3.1″ W X 4.4″ H X 2.2″ D which puts this camera right in the palm of your hand. It’s powered by 8 AA batteries which are held in by a removable carriage. There are a ton of features on here as you can see from above, but you can look HERE to see all the details on Spypoint’s website. While the small physical size of the camera is great for portability, Aiden from Shooting & Safety points out here that you also should keep in mind the size of the trail cam’s memory card so you don’t run out of storage capacity more frequently than you can swap out the card.
So, what do I think?There are a lot of factors that have impressed me while doing this Spypoint Link-Micro Review, the camera app and Spypoint in general. The Spypoint Micro itself is the perfect size camera for me. Easily hideable and no problem throwing it in your pack. The price can’t be beaten. Who would have thought while most companies are charging around $400 for a camera that someone could jump in with one that’s just as good for $150 like the Micro. That alone is huge and will be the best selling point for anyone wanting to get into the cell camera game. The app is also key. I love the ability to be able to control every aspect of the settings from my phone wherever and whenever. But Spypoint, in general, are somehow able to give us what we all wanted. I budget camera and cheap subscriptions. Right now I’m only using the free monthly subscription which gives me 100 photos a month. Closer to the season I will pay $5 a month for 250 a month and it keeps going up from there. I don’t know how they keep the plans so low, but thanks Spypoint. So yes, I really like this camera and will be adding more. |

Ok, you asked, I’ll tell you. The technology is fine, cameras usually work, transmission is what it is, good connection good transmission,…BUT there is a need to communicate with SPYPOINT about problems, they DO happen, and we have dumped 2 and are fixin’ to do the same with number 3. Why? it’s the lack of support. The idea behind transmitting the photos to our phones is THE reason we have gone cellular. When it’s a hassle to get support, the game’s over for us. We will put our boots on the ground for 1/3 the cost. Too bad, cuz it’s a great idea, and a capable technology, but if we can’t get support, then, we’re done here.
Thanks for the feedback. I talk to a lot of people about these cameras and I do hear about a lot of issues. But, when I ask everyone if they have updated the software they don’t know what I’m talking about. This is a new camera to Spypoint and they are doing a lot of software updates as bugs are getting worked out. Most of the time, the issues people have with this comes from an old version on their software. After an update, I rarely see them complain out the cameras again. Yes, there are issues that an update won’t fix like the customer service response. But they are overwhelmed these days when all that needs done is an update.
How do you go about updating your camera
There are a couple ways to go about it. You can download the latest firmware from the Spypoint website. The Micro page has the file and instructions. It’s very easy. Or, you can try and reach someone on the app chat and get them to update the camera for you. They can do it over the air. But you’ll have to restart the camera manually by turning it off and on again.
Reviews on Amazon also highlight poor customer service. That prevented me from buying one unfortunately. If CS improves I would reconsider.
yes well said . I just purchased one and the batteries went dead and the trouble began. I can not get pics to my phone anymore. I call the support line and that is not a good idea . I have been on hold for 2 hours and no response. I called back over and over no respnce. Poor customer service plain jane sucks……………Still can not get camera to work………………I also put brand new batteries in and a new Micro SD card as well nothing working…….

I agree, spent 40 min. on hold for support. I gave up. If it takes that long must be 1 or two things going on!!! Lots or problems with the camera or not enough personal to take the support calls!!! my 4 cameras worked very well for 2-3 weeks then they all quit transmitting almost at the same time!!Brought them back to my house and now they are working.
Guys, these cameras are not good. I bought one last year and it worked ok. Sale at Dicks and I bought 4 of the Micros, boxes and antennaes. They don’t work. Good luck on updating the settings. Good luck on reasonable time picture download. There is NO on to call.
$1000 down the drain. DON’T DO IT.

I bought one to try (Verizon)…………….. tried to get it to “link” to the mobile app without success. Spent 2 hours trying to get support and they suggested an exchange, which I did three days after the original purchase. Second camera had the same problem and I spent another 2 hours trying to get support. They suggested that they send me a new camera and I return the second one ………………….. do you see a problem here ? 4 hours with tech support and 2 cameras …. waiting for the 3rd camera to show up ! Now I’m told the servers are “down” that’s why the cameras won’t “link” with the app. Don’t you think tech support should have known that ? This is a joke and I would not recommend Spypoint to anyone. I have 2 Spypoint Tinys, which operate easily and flawlessly. What is happening here ? Almost a week now and no mobile app. I will repost after I give the third camera a try.
These cameras are junk. I have one sitting at house that they can’t fix. Yesterday I bought a micro ( told myself over and over not too) Drove out to set it up and button to turn on stopped working. Returned today. Never and I mean never do these guys help with anything. Just give you more free upgrades for picture plans. Who cares how many picture upgrades I get if the damn cameras don’t ever take pictures. I sat under a cell tower with Micro to have it tell me no signal over and over…I get burned every time from SpyPoint. I so wish they worked and had customer service on point. I don’t mind sacrificing quality in the photos to save time going to pull SD cards.
cameras are horrible. Please don’t waste your money. I’m on #6 now and still don’t have one thats functional. Can’t believe how unreliable these products are.
DO NOT BUY THESE CAMERAS. I bought one camera during the holidays last year. That camera worked great so I invested in 4 more. The last 4 cameras stopped working one month after purchase. I have now been in a 6 month run around with Spypoint. I did the firmware updates and all the other little fixes they suggested to no avail. Finally, after another battle I received an RMA number to return the 4 cameras. I spent $30 returning the cameras. They returned ONE camera to me, which has the same problem as the 4 I initially returned. You can not reach the corporate office, the staff says they are going to check something out regarding your account then disconnects the phone. This has gone on for 6 months. This is a Canadian company and your recourse is limited. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA unless you want a full time job trying to communicate and resolve issues with this company.
