Going out for a long hunt or a 10 mile hike, the one thing we always need to a reliable and comfortable pack to carry our supplies in.  Outdoor Products offers a wide variety of packs for everyone’s needs.  I wanted something that could hold a lot of gear, be comfortable all day and also keep everything dry, so Outdoor Products sent me the Canyon Weather Defense Backpack.

Out of the box

At first inspection, the Canyon Weather Defense Backpack defenately had everything I was looking for with the size and storage needed to carry pretty much everything I would need for a day out on the trail.  Padding in all the right places, wide comfortable straps and the additional sternum and waist straps really help secure the pack to me even with heavy loads.  The only thing that stood out as being a concern about the Canyon Weather Defense Backpack would be the material.  I know this is an all weather pack made to keep my gear dry, but I wish it could be done without using the vinyl type material.  Its kinda hard and does make noise especially when cold.  I never took it out in sub freezing temps, but started stiffening up in temps a little over freezing.

The Test

As I mentioned before, the Canyon Weather Defense Backpack has everything I need in a pack and the design is done very well.  It’s a very comfortable pack that fit me very well with warm weather and cold weather gear on.  First time wearing it was out for an all day shed hunt with minimal amount of gear.  I didn’t even know it was there most of time.  After getting all the straps adjusted to fit me, I loved the comfort level I got out of it.  Once the temps warmed up, I wanted to really test this out with some added weight.  I also wanted to test out some weighted hiking so I dropped a 25 pound plate in the back and took off.  I honestly did all I could to rip out the bottom of this pack.  Before I went out, I just jumped up and down a couple thousand times (maybe 20) to see how it would feel.  The Canyon Weather Defense Backpack held up great.  After an hour in the woods, jumping over creeks and climbing hills, I was done and ready to wrap this review up.  Not a stitch was broke and any damage shown anywhere.

With 25 lb weight.

I did also accidentally test it for keeping my gear dry.  After being left in the back of the truck for a week and thru a couple rain storms, everything inside stayed dry.  So, it passed all my tests.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, I did like using the Canyon Weather Defense Backpack and it worked perfectly as advertised.  I was very comfortable and stable even with a 25 pound weight.  My only complaint was the fabric.  If the all weather factor can be done with a softer quieter fabric, I would love this pack for hunting.  But for me, its a great hiking pack, but I will use something else for hunting.
